Six Senses Bhutan to Debut in OctoberWill Speros • June 29, 2018
Set for an October 2018 opening, will comprise five boutique lodges nestled in the valleys of the Buddhist kingdom.
The largest of the lodges, Six Senses Thimphu will emphasize grandiose architectural elements of a fortress and clouds, which earns it the nickname Palace in the Sky. In the low-lying valley of Punakha, the Six Sense Punakha will draw inspiration from the farms and vegetable terraces of the landscape as well as the cantilevers of traditional Bhutan bridges. Within the glacial valley of Phobjikha, the Six Senses Gangtey will arrive with a main, bridge-like volume outfitted with a large glass area overlooking the expanse of greenery that is home to black-necked cranes. The centrally located Six Senses Bumthang will open in the thick of a pine forest, and be characterized by an immerse tree and garden motif in its design. Overlooking the Paro Valley, the Six Senses Paro will round out the company’s lodges in Bhutan.
The Six Senses Thimphu, Paro, and Punakha will open in October, while the Gangtey and Bumthang lodges will arrive in early 2019.
